On Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 9:56 a.m., Franklin Township police responded to a 9-1-1 call and found Kofi Addo suffering from a gunshot wound, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said.
An investigation revealed three boys, ages 14, 13, and 13 as being involved in the robbery and homicide shooting of Addo, authorities said The juveniles intended to rob Addo when one of them fired a shot killing the victim as he was operating the taxi, authorities said. Following the shooting, the juveniles fled from the area on foot, authorities said.
A 14-year-old Somerset boy was sentenced to 11 years for murder, robbery and weapons charges. A 13-year-old New Brunswick boy was sentenced to eight years for felony murder and robbery. A 13-year-old Somerset boy was sentenced to four years for robbery, authorities said.
The juveniles could not be prosecuted as adults because they were under the age of 15, authorities said.
